What Replaces Vue on 30A Depends on a Question the Club Already Asked Its Members

Who gets to sit at the next Gulf-front table at Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club? Vue on 30a is closed. The building that opened in 1971 as the "Beach Club" won't serve another sunset dinner. Months before the closure, the club's Planning Committee had already put that question in writing to its members, listed as "public versus member access."

That question will shape a stretch of Gulf where the club itself says it hosted rehearsal dinners and anniversary toasts for decades. The closure itself was less sudden than it looked. The club had been planning to replace this building since at least spring 2026, and the September announcement moved that plan forward.

The building was already on its way out

30a Television reported on September 14, 2026 that Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club had permanently closed Vue on 30a, its Gulf-front fine dining venue. The Board of Directors made the call after routine maintenance inspections.

The club's own closure notice lays out the reasoning. Outside professionals found water intrusion and related indoor air quality issues in parts of the property. Those problems could be fixed, but the fix would take "a significant financial investment and an extended timeline, in a building already slated for replacement under the Club's long-range beachfront master plan." The board chose not to spend that money on a building it called one "with a limited future."

The building ran for 55 years. It opened to the public in 1971 as the Beach Club and later became Vue on 30a, known for panoramic Gulf views and upscale coastal food. In Walton County's 2024 Perfect Awards it won Platinum honors for both Best Fine Dining and Best Wedding Venue.

Steve O'Brien, president of the club's Board of Directors, spoke to that history in the statement 30A.com published.

"Vue has been so much more than a restaurant. It has been part of the fabric of this Club and this community for generations. While this is a bittersweet moment for our membership and the local community, prioritizing long-term safety and executing our master plan is the most responsible path forward for the club's future."

30a Television reported that all upcoming public reservations, private parties, and scheduled events were canceled. Club management is contacting affected guests and hosts directly about refunds and other arrangements.

The plan was moving long before the doors closed

The closure notice calls the replacement part of a "long-range" plan. The club's member updates show how far along that plan already was. Here is the 2026 sequence:

  1. April 30. The Planning Committee wrote to members after a round of focus groups and surveys about Vue and the Beach Club. Architects at Meyers + Associates were starting early concepts for Vue, the Beach Club and the surrounding facilities.
  2. August 25. At a members-only town hall held inside Vue on 30a, Chris Meyers + Associates presented "one refined Renovation Plan concept." The board shared estimated costs and possible funding scenarios. The club said this concept was not yet final.
  3. September. Vue on 30a closed permanently.
  4. October 20. The club scheduled the completed master plan for presentation at its Annual Meeting.

The building closed about three weeks after members saw a refined concept for replacing it, and roughly five weeks before the finished plan was due. The inspection findings explain why it closed in September. The planning calendar explains why the board was ready to close it for good instead of patching it.

The club has not released the master plan, a demolition date, or a reopening timeline to the public. 30a Television reported that updates on the master plan timeline and future beachfront concepts will be shared through the club's news portal.

The open question for non-members

Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club has been around since 1969. It describes itself as member-owned and semi-private, with an 18-hole championship golf course, a private beach club, pool amenities and Gulf-front acreage. Vue took public reservations, which opened that Gulf-front acreage to diners outside the membership. The closure notice credits the property with hosting "anniversaries and rehearsal dinners, sunset toasts and Sunday lunches, first dates and fiftieth ones."

The April letter is the clearest public record of what the club weighed. Members asked for better dining, outdoor gathering spaces, and room to spend time with family and friends at the club. The committee also heard "a range of viewpoints" on two questions it said it was weighing as part of a long-term strategy.

  • Public versus member access. This decides whether the next beachfront restaurant takes outside reservations the way Vue did.
  • Renovation versus new construction. The September notice suggests replacement is the direction. The August town hall still called the concept a "Renovation Plan," so the published plan will settle the wording.

The letter also said the architects' studies were looking at "what is possible from both a design and regulatory standpoint" and how the options fit "member priorities and financial considerations." No public source has said which way the club decided. For anyone outside the membership who used to treat Vue as their special-occasion table, the access question is the one to watch when the plan comes out.

Where you can book a Gulf-view table now

Until the club says more, Gulf-view dining in Santa Rosa Beach comes from a short list of places farther along 30A and County Highway 393. Most take the public, and one serves only its own homeowners and guests, which is the same access question the club is weighing.

Spot Where Who can dine
Shunk Gulley Oyster Bar Gulf Place, 1875 S. Hwy. 393 Open for lunch and dinner, with Gulf views
Fish Out of Water WaterColor, 34 Goldenrod Circle Gulf-front, daily lunch and dinner, open to the public
Bud & Alley's Waterfront Restaurant Seaside, 2236 East County Road 30-A Directly on the Gulf, with a Gulf-facing roof deck
The Shrimp Shack and Boardwalk Bar Seaside, just east of Coleman Pavilion Gulf-side bar with food on the waterfront side
WaterColor Grill WaterColor Beach Club, 24 Goldenrod Circle WaterColor homeowners and guests

For a dressed-up dinner with the Gulf in view, Fish Out of Water is the closest match to the evening Vue offered. The restaurant calls itself Gulf-front and serves lunch and dinner daily. Visit South Walton lists it as waterfront and open to the public.

For a sunset drink without a full dinner, Bud & Alley's promotes its roof deck for cocktails and light bites facing the Gulf. The Seaside directory describes the restaurant as sitting directly on the Gulf with panoramic views. A few steps east, The Shrimp Shack and its Boardwalk Bar serve food and drinks on the waterfront side of the building, which suits a plan that starts with sandy feet.

Shunk Gulley Oyster Bar in Gulf Place is the most casual option on the list. It advertises Gulf views and lists lunch and dinner service. WaterColor Grill has the Gulf view too, but the resort says it serves WaterColor homeowners and guests. That makes it a members-and-guests table, which is exactly the model the Santa Rosa club is now deciding on for its own beachfront.

Hours and access at all of these can change by season. Each restaurant's own site is the best place to check before you plan a celebration around it.
